Meet with Cortney
Hey, congrats on taking this first step in putting yourself first! Let’s be honest, going to therapy can be a little intimidating. I know what you are thinking, “what would speaking to a shrink do for me? I have so much on my mind, it will take more than a few sessions to unleash everything.” Well…I got time AND the passion. I believe that as human beings living in our present society, we are conditioned to put our needs aside and we frequently forget how to take care of ourselves. As your therapist, I am strongly devoted to assisting you in tackling life challenges and coming out stronger than ever. My drive is to make you, as my client, believe that your feelings are normal, your problems are manageable and you can get through the rough patches because YOU are capable.
It is no surprise that I use a strength-based perspective in my approach to therapy. In addition, I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relaxation techniques, solution-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Together, we will choose the best approach that best matches your style and goals. A few of my specialties are anxiety, stress, work/life balance, dating & relationships, self-esteem issues, perfectionism, family issues, black American issues, women issues, social anxiety, and creating boundaries & habits. My goal is to create a safe space where you can be unapologetically yourself, be heard and validated, and get to know YOU again as we work together to meet your goals for self-discovery and personal growth.
When I am not working, I enjoy being a foodie and linking up with some friends for happy hour. My dream is to travel around the world and eat all the different foods that come with it. I also enjoy extreme excursions. I enjoy reading self-help books as it inspires me to show up as my best self especially for others. Fun fact: I have two turtles that I’ve had since I was two. Their names are Speedy and Olive.
